Google Juice Bar comes to Leeds

Nov 21, 2014

This morning we’ve been to a presentation brought to us by the Superfast West Yorkshire Business Support Programme, Superconnected Leeds Bradford and BPIF CDi Print Yorkshire.

The venue was the HQ of AQL in Leeds which is the old Salem Church near the Brewery car park. What a fabulous and perfectly central location!

The morning started with general networking over juice, tea & coffee. Then we were taken into the main hall which is stunning, I have to say.

The presentations started with Roger Marsh, Chair of the Leeds City Region Region Enterprise Partnership (LEP) explaining about the exciting things coming to the region in 2015.

We then heard from Adam Beaumont, CEO and Founder of AQL sharing with us a little about AQL and datacentres.

Robert McClements, Chief Executive at CDi PrintYorkshire talked about how things are changing in this creative & digital world and the success of their Visual Media Conference this year which has inspired them to run another VMC in  March 2015.

We then heard from Martin Boddy, CEO at Jaywing. Good to hear where he came from (Barclays Bank was his first job – same here!) good grounding!

Google Plus

And the main attraction – Google! Gori Yahaya showed and talked us through a few element of the Google Portfolio:-

  • Google Trends – Where you can find out what key words are popular and when. You can look up ‘regional interest’. I ran a trend search on the term ‘google plus‘ which was really interesting to see the high peak in July 2011 and that it’s the Maldives that were the top regional interest.
  • Google Adwords – Gori suggested we add around 30 keywords to a Google Adwords campaign and used Keyword Planner to define the words.
  • Google My Business – This connects all different components of Google together to showcase your business through Google Search, Maps or on Google+  EG. this is the Social Progress entry.
  • Google+ – Google’s very own social media site. We deliver Google Plus workshops on a regular basis. Check out the Event Diary for the next workshop.

After Gori’s presentation you could then get some 121 advice from a Google Guru. All in all a brilliant event with lots of helpful information for SMEs in & around the Leeds region. Watch out for more events and workshops coming from Superfast West Yorkshire.
