You may or may not know that at the back end of 2015 Janet entered the Social Progress Blog into the UK Blog Awards 2016. We’re not usually very shout-y about our work or the clients we work with – unless we appear in the Close Up Magazine, Topic UK Magazine or in the local press – simply because we’re excited and grateful to be in there! So this was a first for Team SoPro and we really didn’t expect to get much from it. But like the classic saying goes: “if you never try, then you’ll never know”.

Janet put forward 2 of our blogs in particular under the categories of “Lifestyle” and “PR, Media Marketing and Comms”:

  1. National Fairtrade Awards
  2. Esther’s Experience

We encouraged people to vote for our blog through various social media platforms, including Facebook and Twitter, & LinkedIn, linking straight through to our UK Blog Awards Profile where people could vote once a day, every day up until 26th January. Needless to say, both Janet and I (Esther) told our families about it and they were on the ball voting too. Once the voting had closed all we could do was wait.

UK Blog Awards 2016 - Finalists - Social Progress LtdAfter a few weeks (if that) one morning, I looked up and peered over my computer screen to strike up a conversation with Janet (who sits directly across from me) only to see shock written on Janet’s face – which then grew into an ecstatic smile of joy and disbelief. “What, what, what??” I said whilst bouncing up and down on my chair. To which Janet replied “I don’t believe it. We’ve been short-listed for the UK Blog Awards under the category of PR, Media Marketing and Comms! Esther, we’re going to London!!” This was then followed by a lot of SoProHigh5s, bouncing up and down with excitement and me shouting “LONDON BABY!!”

As the news sank in that we were 1 of the 10 finalists short-listed for the PR, Media & Communications category, we just felt so thankful that people took the time out to actually vote for us! Thank you, thank you, thank you!

But then a look of fear swept across Janet’s face…

“Oh no! This means I have to actually wear a frock!!”

By the looks of it, it’s going to be a bit of a fancy do. If you know Janet, you know she presents to various sized audiences from 1 person to 300 people. She meets new people all the time and networks A LOT! She’s jumped out of a plane, twice! Completed a Spartan obstacle course and done much more in her life. But invite her to an event where she has to dress up and that’s it!

“You do know I’ll be worrying about what to wear the whole time leading up to 28th April?”

So as of today, Janet is on a health-kick and a mission to prepare for the awards ceremony in April. She’s given up cake and alcohol for lent (or longer if she can) and is on the look-out for a new and appropriate dress or outfit she’s comfortable in. Watch this space to see how she does…

We want to say a HUGE THANK YOU to everyone who did vote for us and for supporting us. We feel the SoPro love and we’re really excited to be going to the UK Blog Awards at the end of April!

We feel another SoPro-Road-Trip-Sing-Along coming on..!
